Making money online in Ghana: honest options and getting paid in cedis

Real ways to earn online from Ghana (skills, digital products, services and affiliate marketing), the scams to avoid, and how to get paid to mobile money or a bank in cedis.

If you've searched for how to make money online in Ghana, you've probably seen a lot of big promises: "earn $500 a day", "no work needed", "just invest and wait". Most of them are not real.

The truth is less exciting but much more useful: people in Ghana do earn real money online, and they do it by selling something valuable (a skill, a product, a service or a recommendation) to people who want it. This guide covers the honest options, what each one needs, how to avoid scams, and how to actually get paid to your mobile money or bank account in cedis.

First, a warning about scams

Before the real options, learn the warning signs. Walk away if someone:

  • Promises guaranteed returns or "double your money" in days.
  • Asks you to pay to get a job, or to pay a "registration fee" to start earning.
  • Wants you to recruit people to earn, with no real product being sold.
  • Pressures you to decide now, before you can ask anyone.
  • Asks for your MoMo PIN, bank login or one-time codes. No real business ever needs these.

Real online income comes from real work or real products. If there's nothing being sold, the product is probably you.

Option 1: Sell a skill as a freelancer

If you can do something well, people and businesses around the world will pay for it. Skills that sell online include:

  • Graphic design and logo design
  • Writing, editing and translation
  • Social media management
  • Video editing
  • Web design
  • Virtual assistance and data entry
  • Tutoring and exam prep

How to start

  1. Pick one skill and get good at it. Free online tutorials can take you far.
  2. Build three to five samples. Make them for yourself, a friend's business or an imaginary client.
  3. Show your work on Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok or a simple portfolio page.
  4. Start with people near you: local businesses, churches, schools, friends' shops. Your first reviews often come from your own network.
  5. Send clear quotes and invoices so clients take you seriously.

As you get more clients, raise your prices. Freelancers who stay cheap forever burn out.

Option 2: Sell digital products

A digital product is something people download or watch: an ebook, a template, a planner, a course, a set of presets. You make it once and can sell it again and again, to buyers in Ghana and abroad.

Ideas that work well:

  • A guide to something you know: exam prep, baking, starting a small business, landing your first job.
  • Templates: CVs, budgets, social media posts, business plans.
  • A short video course recorded on your phone.
  • Printable planners or worksheets.

The best part is that delivery is automatic. Someone pays at midnight and gets the file straight away, while you sleep.

Option 3: Sell services and bookings

Some work happens offline but can be sold online: make-up, photography, hair, tutoring, coaching, consulting, event planning. Let people see your work online, book a time and pay before you show up. Asking for payment upfront cuts no-shows.

You can also sell paid coaching calls or live classes from your phone: people book a time or a seat and pay, and you meet them online.

Option 4: Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing means recommending other people's products and earning a commission when someone buys through your link. You don't create the product or handle delivery. You just need people who trust your recommendations.

How to do it well

  • Only promote things you'd recommend to a friend. Your reputation is your business.
  • Pick a topic (for example tech, beauty, study tips or small business) so people know what to expect from you.
  • Teach, then recommend. "Here's how I plan my week" works better than "buy this planner".
  • Be honest that you earn a commission.

Klaasi has a partner programme that is free to join. Partners promote courses, classes and ebooks from creators and earn a commission on each sale, paid every week.

Option 5: Sell physical products online

Clothes, shoes, beauty products, accessories, food and crafts sell well online in Ghana. You need stock, good photos and a reliable way to deliver, but the shop itself can live on your phone. Start small, with products you know, and add more when you see what sells.

How to get paid in Ghana

Earning the money is only half the job. You also need a safe, simple way for customers to pay you, and for you to receive it in cedis.

What buyers in Ghana want

Most buyers in Ghana prefer to pay with mobile money (MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money), and some prefer cards or bank transfer. If your only option is "send to my number and I'll confirm", you'll lose buyers who don't know you yet, and you'll spend hours checking payments.

A proper checkout link lets the buyer pay by mobile money or card and confirms the payment by itself.

How prices and payments work on Klaasi

On Klaasi, sellers in Ghana usually set their price in dollars. Buyers outside Nigeria see that dollar price, and at checkout they can pay by card, bank transfer or mobile money. Mobile money is paid in the buyer's own currency, converted from the dollar price, and the exact amount shows before they pay.

When a fresh exchange rate is available, buyers in Ghana also see an estimate in cedis under the dollar price, like "about GH₵…", so they know roughly what they'll pay before they tap.

When you add a product, you pick one currency for your price, naira or dollars, and Klaasi works out the other for buyers in Nigeria.

Getting your money to MoMo or a bank

Your sales go to your Klaasi wallet. To withdraw dollar earnings in Ghana, add a payout account: choose Ghana, then Mobile money (pick your network and type your number) or a Bank account paid in local money. Your dollars are changed to cedis when you're paid, and the withdraw screen shows the amount and the fee before you confirm.

Tips to make more money online in Ghana

  • Start with one thing. Don't try freelancing, affiliate marketing and a course in the same month.
  • Show up consistently. Post about your work several times a week. Most people buy after seeing you many times.
  • Collect reviews from every happy client or buyer.
  • Keep records of what you earn and spend. Ask the Ghana Revenue Authority or an accountant what applies to you as your income grows.
  • Reinvest. Put some of your first earnings into a better microphone, a course or a small ad budget.
  • Think beyond Ghana. Digital products and online services can be sold to buyers anywhere.

Quick checklist

  1. Avoid anything that promises easy money or asks you to pay to earn.
  2. Pick one option: a skill, a digital product, a service or affiliate marketing.
  3. Build samples or your first product.
  4. Share your work where your buyers spend time.
  5. Use a checkout that takes mobile money and cards.
  6. Withdraw to your MoMo or bank in cedis.
  7. Keep records and keep improving.
